World Series Game 7 Captures 51M Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51M spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase over the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
