The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for Mammon in Michael Showalter's wonderfully garish true story of the disgraced religious broadcaster plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield plays the greedy Jim, who declares initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals set about capitalizing on the American public's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of poor styling, overdone appearance and insincerity, though the lead actress succeeds to depict the character as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, Film4
